Advances in Road Safety

According to the latest World Health Organization’s global status report on road safety, which was released in December 2018, the number of annual deaths related to road accidents has reached 1.35 million. This is an increase of approximately 150,000 annual deaths when compared to a previous report issued by the same organization in 2015. According to the same 2018 report, road traffic injuries are now the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5 to 29 years. These facts suggest that road safety is a serious global challenge that needs drastic actions.

This Special Issue will provide a platform for researchers in the field of road safety to present their latest research contributions. Authors are welcome to submit both review and original engineering-related research papers in all areas related to road engineering safety. Both empirical and conceptual research studies are welcome. Road safety topics in the following areas are welcome:

  • Design, implementation, and evaluation
  • Modeling, simulation, and optimization
  • Human, environmental, and vehicular factors
  • Intelligent transportation systems
  • Innovative engineering ideas and concepts
  • Case studies
