Special issue on MXenes for energy conversion and storage

Published 14 July, 2021

Since the first paper on MXenes was published in 2011, this family of two-dimensional materials has attracted tremendous attention from scientific and industrial fields. Owing to the characteristic features of MXenes, which include richness in chemistry, good electrical conductivity and hydrophilicity, large surface area, fast charge response, pseudocapacitance and stable cycle life, they are seen as promising candidates for energy conversion and storage materials. In fact, MXenes and their composites have already been used in supercapacitors, secondary lithium/sodium/potassium/magnesium ion batteries, lithium-sulfur batteries, zinc-air batteries, hydrogen storage and other energy storage devices.

This special issue will feature perspectives on, and new discoveries and progress in the development of MXenes and MXenes-based materials.

Topics covered:

  • Materials design and theoretical approaches for novel MXenes
  • MXene-based materials for metal ion batteries
  • MXene-based materials for supercapacitors
  • MXene-based materials for electrocatalysis and photocatalysis
  • MXene-based materials for other energy conversion and storage

Important deadlines:

  • Submission deadline: 31 October 2021
