Special Issue on New Horizons in Polymer-Based Nanocomposites

Published 11 September, 2020

Polymer nanocomposites are rapidly emerging as novel materials for several advanced engineering applications. In particular, nanocomposites from different resources, such as synthetic and natural resources, have attracted the attention of researchers globally, owing to their unique characteristics. These characteristics include: low-cost production, flexible nature, ease of processing and remarkable physicomechanical properties in comparison to the existing state-of-the-art metallic/ceramic-based nanocomposite materials. Various classes of nanocomposite materials have been developed using numerous strategies. With recent progress in polymer nanocomposites research, this special issue focuses on summarising the latest developments in the field.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Polymer nanocomposites
  • Synthesis
  • Structural design and advanced processing of polymer nanocomposites
  • Modelling and simulation of polymer nanocomposite materials
  • Design for manufacture of nanocomposite materials
  • Properties and characterisation of nanocomposite materials
  • Synthesis of nanofibers and fabrics through electrospinning of polymer (synthetic/biobased)
  • Functionalisation of nanomaterials
  • Application in different areas, including energy storage, energy harvesting, coatings, automotive, packaging, construction, medical and electronics
