Special Issue on “Mobile Edge Computing”

Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) has seen its fast growth in the past years. MEC, taking the advantage of the computation capabilities in edge devices, elegantly offloads the computation burden from cloud computing, but provides a greatly improved end-to-end latency. MEC has a wide range of applications such as 5G wireless networking, Internet of Things, and collaborative autonomous vehicles. One big need driving the future MEC is new network communications, architectures and protocols that enable the data moving and computation in the mobile edge devices and networks.

The purpose of this special issue is to survey the current research progress and literature in MEC, and propose new communication and networking solutions for future MEC applications. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • MEC architectures, protocols and communications
  • MEC solutions and algorithms to work across 5G, future WiFi, Visible Light Communication (VLC) wireless networks.
  • MEC solutions for Internet of Things (IoT).
  • MEC content delivery and caching,
  • MEC in smart health, ultra-high definition video, autonomous vehicles and smart grids.
  • Mobile cloudlet solutions and algorithms
  • Fog computing for MEC
  • Software Defined Networks (SDNs) for MEC
  • MEC platforms and simulators
  • MEC measurements and experiments

Paper Submission

  • Elsevier Digital Communications and Networks (DCN), fully open accessed by ScienceDirect and indexed by Scopus and ESCI, publishes rigorously peer-reviewed and high quality original articles and authoritative reviews. Only original and unpublished research papers or significantly (more than 1/3 content) extended conference papers will be considered in this special issue. Authors should follow the Elsevier DCN manuscript format described in the Information for Authors at DCN journal website ((http://www.keaipublishing.com/en/journals/digital-communications-and-networks/). Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy to the Elsevier DCN on-line manuscript system via (https://www.evise.com/profile/#/DCAN/login) according to the following timetable and choose the article type as “SI: Mobile Edge Computing”.
