Modified Nanomaterials for Energy Storage Applications

The demand for energy has increased significantly due to high consumption of electricity, elevation in the world population and industrial dependency on electricity rather thanfossil fuels.The technological advances in electronics and automotive industries require high input of energy. Considering the high demand of energy consumption, lack of conventional energy supplies and their adverse effects on the environment, it is becoming crucial to start making use of unconventional energy resources, renewable energy and to restructure the traditional processes to increase energy efficiency.

Energy storage is one of the main issues for renewable energy sources as the direct supply of harvested fluctuating electric energy to the consumer is not possible. Therefore, highly efficient and good capacity energy storage devices are always desirable. In this regard, nanomaterials play a crucial role in the development of new energy storage capacitors by converting energy devicesto meetthe current and future energy storage demands.

Pristine carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) usually tend to agglomerate in most solvents due to their weak van der Waals forces as well as their hydrophobicity and low solubility. Besides, other shortcomings of pristine CNMs are the formation of impurities during their synthesis, which can lead to a reduction of adsorption efficiency. Hence, it is vital to perform surface modification of CNMs in order to overcome the limitations as well as to retain their extraordinary properties. Therefore, the modified nanomaterials for energy storage application is a major breakthrough to solve energy issues in the coming years.

The main objective of this special issue (VSI) is to provide a platform by inviting top-notch scientists working in this area all around the world and publish their quality research papers in Materials Science for Energy Technologies. Some 25 to 30 excellent manuscripts in these areas will be invited and published as per MSET handling procedures. Authors are requested to submit their papers in the appropriate format available in the Journal’s website.
