Recent Advances in Immunotherapy and Immunoengineering

Published 10 February, 2023

Introduction:

Recent achievements in immunotherapy such as immune checkpoint inhibitors and chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy have revolutionized cancer treatments. By leveraging the patient’s own immune system, immunotherapy can now be applied in other disease contexts, including cardiac fibrosis and autoimmune diseases. Nonetheless, there are limitations that need to be addressed to improve the effectiveness of immunotherapy. To that end, attempts have been made to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of resistance to current immunotherapy regimens, while new therapeutic approaches in targeting and manipulating components of the immune system are explored.

The Journal of Bioactive Materials invites researchers and scientists from around the world to submit their papers for publication in the Special Issue on ‘Recent Advances in Immunotherapy and Immunoengineering’. This special issue will feature recent technology advances in the field of immunotherapy and immunoengineering made through collaborative efforts across disciplines such as immunology, synthetic biology, biomedical engineering, material science, and other fields of science and engineering.

All abstracts and primary research and review articles will be peer-reviewed before final publication. We hope to bring together different perspectives to broaden the knowledge of immunotherapy and immunoengineering to benefit the field of medicine.

Topics covered:

  • Monoclonal antibodies and immune checkpoint inhibitors
  • Oncolytic virus therapy
  • Vaccines
  • Cytokines
  • Cellular immunotherapy (T-cell therapy, NK-cell therapy, Macrophage-based therapy)
  • Immunomodulators and immune-stimulants
