Energy Underground Engineering

Published 19 December, 2019

The use of the underground space for energy proposes is gaining momentum. The ground could act as a local renewable source of energy. It could also be used as an energy storage medium. By coupling the role of the underground engineering with that of the geothermal heat exchanger or storage, energy underground engineering can serve as structural supports as well as heating and cooling elements for buildings and infrastructures. Innovative projects such as “energy tunnels” or “energy retaining structures” are under construction in some places  around the world.

This special issue is dedicated to sharing experience and knowledge in the broad area of Energy Underground Engineering. All construction aspects are considered. Detailed scientific and/or engineering contributions in areas such as the planning, design, construction, maintenance, energy policy, management and life-cycle analysis are welcome. It will include case histories, full-scale in situ testing, laboratory testing, geotechnical testing, modeling and design of energy engineering systems and facilities for shallow and deep geothermal heat exchange.

If you are willing to contribute, we would highly appreciate it if you could send full manuscript submission by Feb. 29th, 2020.
