Special issue on multiphase flow theory and flow assurance technology

Published 16 January, 2022

Multiphase flow theory and flow assurance technology are widely used in the field of oil and gas exploitation and transportation; for example, in wellbore flow and surface gathering and transportation pipelines. Due to the limited onshore oil and gas resources, oil and gas exploration and production activities have gradually shifted to marine, polar, desert and beach areas, where the conditions can be harsh. For economic and environmental purposes, multiphase mixed transmission technology is mostly adopted, which involves careful calculation of pressure loss, liquid volumes, sediment control and the selection and size of the equipment used. In addition, erosion and harmful flow patterns can occur.

This special issue will feature the latest achievements in the research and application of multiphase flow theory and flow assurance technology. We invite contributions from academic researchers and industry practitioners in the form of research papers, state-of-the-art reviews and case studies.

Topics covered:

These include, but are not limited to:

  • Thermophysical properties of multiphase flow
  • Multiphase flow pattern and discrimination method
  • Mathematical model of multiphase flow
  • Process calculation method of multiphase mixed transmission pipelines
  • Analysis of unsteady flow in multiphase pipelines
  • Intelligent identification methods of multiphase flow patterns
  • Multiphase flow measurement and testing technology
  • Analysis of multiphase flow in gas-liquid-solid pipelines
  • Slug flow analysis
