Special Issue on Trends in Nanomaterials and Nanocomposites: Fundamentals, Modelling and Applications

已发布 02 三月, 2021

Interest in nanomaterials research has grown considerably over the past few decades. Owing to their unique structure and nano-size feature, they exhibit excellent optical, thermal, electrical or mechanical properties that are not present at the micro-scale. When these nanomaterials are integrated with other materials, the resulting “nanocomposites” typically perform better than a single material; for example, increased strength and toughness, improved thermal and electrical conductivity and enhanced optical and magnetic performance. This opens up the possibility for fundamentals, modelling and applications at the interfaces of materials, engineering, chemistry, physics and biology.

In recent years, the synthesis, characterization and applications of 0-D fullerenes, polyhedral oligomers and zeolites, 1-D nanorods and nanowhiskers, and 2-D graphene and MXene, complemented by other compositions have created enormous potential.  On the occasion of Prof. Yiu-Wing Mai's 75th Birthday, we launch this special issue in his honor and for his contributions in this field. The special issue will focus on the current developments and future opportunities. Both review and original research papers from the materials and engineering sciences, chemistry, physics and biochemistry disciplines are welcome.
