Special Issue on Applications of Game Theory to Internet of Things

Published 08 January, 2021

Internet of Things (IoT) describes the interconnectivity of a massive number of machines and human devices which gather and share information. IoT emerged in 1998 and, by 2014, Gartner had labelled it the fastest-growing, largest market potential and most attractive emerging economy in its annual Top 10 Predictions. IoT also supports novel applications that can improve the quality of our lives. For example, IoT has been applied to traffic information systems, remote medical detection and disaster recovery. However, IoT also presents unprecedented challenges around quality of service, communication rules, data intelligence, privacy and security, and architecture, etc.

Game theory is the study of mathematical models of strategic interaction among rational decision-makers and was initially proposed to solve problems in economics. Recently, game theory has been widely applied to various problems in IoT. One classic example is the use of game theory to regulate and predict behaviours of nodes in a network. In addition, game theory can be used to analyse centrality, detect community, predict linkage, allocate resources, assign tasks, manage privacy protection and security strategies, collect data and so on. Leveraging game theory in IoT technology is expected to provide remarkable benefits to academics and industry.

This special issue is focused on the latest applications of game theory to IoT. In particular, we encourage original and high-quality submissions.

Topics Covered:

  • Games in IoT
  • Game theory in network security for applications in IoT
  • Game-theoretic strategies for privacy protection for applications in IoT
