ERA Focuses Issue on Earthquake Sequences in Western China in May 2021

Multiple bursts of earthquakes occurred in western China in May 2021. two of the most significant seismic events had occurred on 21 May - a 6.4 magnitude earthquake that jolted Yangbi Yi Autonomous County in Yunnan Province and a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Madoi County in southern Qinghai Province. The 6.4 mainshock was preceded by a rigorous foreshock sequence that had started a few days earlier. Additional earthquakes are expected to occur in the epicentral regions of both mainshocks, as well as other regions in western China. This special issue of Earthquake Research Advances (ERA) solicits research articles that systematically investigate these sequences.
