Energy Conversion, Storage and Management

The distributed energy system (DES) has generated broad interest toward a sustainable and cost-effective future energy landscape. The rapid development of renewable energy resources, energy storage techniques and energy management systems has made significant impact on the DES scheme. It is thus capable of combining the photovoltaic units, wind turbines, natural gas turbines, fuel cells and biomass energy to power the buildings with multiple clean resources, where different energy storage techniques such as lithium ion battery and redox flow battery are used to regulate the energy supply. The energy management system is the key component to bridge the conversion and storage processes and also to control the energy consumption. To this end, the special issue focuses on the state-of-the-art studies on the energy conversion, storage and management approaches. In particular, the topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  1. Energy conversion: solar cells, fuel cells, water splitting, etc.
  2. Energy storage: lithium ion batteries, redox flow batteries, etc.
  3. Energy management: thermal management, nature-inspired coatings, etc.
