Introduction: Dr Sean Yan is currently a senior lecturer with tenure and senior research fellow at the Institute for Health and Sport, Victoria University. Sean completed his Master's and PhD studies in the field of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue development at the University of Wyoming (USA). He then conducted his postdoctoral fellowship (supported by the American Diabetes Association) in integrative physiology and metabolism at the Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School (USA). Dr Yan relocated to Australia in 2013 with a four-year fellowship from Victoria University. His research focus revolves around exercise genomics and the dynamic adaptations of skeletal muscle to conditioning exercises, particularly in hypoxic environments. He is keen in exploring the potential of exercise to enhance skeletal muscle function in overweight and elderly individuals. Additionally, he delves into the intricate gender-specific responses to exercise. Dr. Yan is an active member of the Australian Physiological Society, the American Physiological Society, the Chinese Association for Physiological Sciences, and the American College of Sports Medicine. He has published over 60 manuscripts and an h-index of 25. Dr Yan has supervised three PhD students and eleven honours students to date, and currently supervises four PhD students and two honours students.
