Special Issue on Advanced Communication Theory and Technology in Digital Twins

Published 11 May, 2021

A Digital Twins is a virtual representation of a physical object or process. Digital Twins technology provides an effective means to realise digital, networked, intelligent and service-oriented transformation and upgrading, and can be seamlessly fused with the latest IT technologies. At present, the application of Digital Twins technology in the manufacturing industry focuses on products and production systems where the model is constructed using simulation software. However, the fusion of information space and physical space has always been a bottleneck in intelligent manufacturing. For example, the communication interface between CNC (Computer Numerical Control) equipment is not unified, the communication lacks an authentication mechanism, the equipment is not open to the outside world, and various types of CNC equipment cannot be managed uniformly, resulting in high input and low output. Improving the data interconnection between devices is key to the fusion of the information and physical spaces.

This special issue will provide a platform to explore research related to advanced communication theory and technology in the field of Digital Twins. In addition, we will present the broad range of applications for Digital Twins technology in the industry.

Topics Covered:

  • Data flow and communication of the Digital Twins model in an intelligent manufacturing platform
  • Digital Twins communication systems based on satellite communication
  • The function module construction of a Digital Twins communication system
  • Communication between a Digital Twins model and a virtual controller model
  • Real-time data information conversion of industrial production CNC equipment
  • Production process detection and a digital model of a workshop bottom data source
  • Communication universalisation of different operating systems in industrial manufacturing
  • A Digital Twins model communication system of an intelligent internet vehicle
