International Conference on Economics and Finance: Global and Domestic Challenges and Opportunities in Emerging Economies

Chengdu, China
May 12 - 13, 2017

Southwestern Jiaotong University, Chengdu, China, and the Society for the Study of Emerging Markets (SSEM) invite submission of papers for, and participation in, a major international conference on domestic and global economic challenges and developments in emerging economies and markets. Empirical, theoretical and data scientific papers related to the theme of the conference as well as papers dealing with institutions, financial economics, data science and policy issues are welcome. Participants are invited to submit their individual papers for presentation or to propose an entire panel consisting of several papers.

Themes to be considered at the conference include, but are not limited to:

  • Financial markets and banking
  • Credit risk, fixed income and corporate debt
  • Regulations, capital flows and macroeconomic and financial stability
  • Spillovers between advanced economies and emerging economies
  • Challenges for economic growth and financial stability
  • Institutional development and reforms and their impact on real and financial sectors and markets
  • Relative role of institutions versus economic policies for economic growth
  • International financial institutions and impact of recent and past financial crises on real and financial sectors
  • Regional economic integration and the cross-border trade and investment
  • Comparative studies on economic transition and system changes in Asia, Europe and the Americas
  • Country-specific studies on financial market reforms, industrial and technology sectors, foreign trade and investment regimes, etc.
  • Vulnerabilities in emerging market economies and policy options
  • Monetary policies and fiscal policies, their interactions and effects
  • Sustainable development options in the context of arising geo-political conflicts
  • Data Science and related to the above

PUBLICATION OPPORTUNIES
Papers presented at the conference will be considered for publication (subject to double-blind reviewing process) in a special issue of

Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, SSCI, http://www.tandfonline.com/loi/mree20, and

Journal of Finance and Data Science (JFDS), http://www.keaipublishing.com/en/journals/the-journal-of-finance-and-data-science/


Authors will have the option of selecting their journal preference for special issues. Detailed information regarding the submission process will be presented during the conference and also emailed to the conference participants following the completion of the conference.


Ali M. Kutan, Editor of Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, will also conduct a workshop on "How to publish in top economics and business journals", targeted towards young scholars, assistant professors and doctoral students.


ABSTRACT / PAPER SUBMISSION
Paper proposals, consisting of an abstract of no more than 400 words and/or complete papers, should be submitted. Proposals will be reviewed by the conference's scientific committee on an ongoing basis. The final deadline for abstract/paper submissions is April 5, 2017. Decisions will be made within two weeks upon submissions. The number of papers that can be accommodated is limited, so please be sure to submit your abstract/paper early.


CONFERENCE REGISTRATION
All conference attendees (including paper presenters) are required to pay the registration fee using the link provided in the conference website

Registration fee of US$300 (early bird: until April 30, 2016) for all attendees, which covers conference materials, coffee breaks, lunches, and conference dinner.

A late registration fee of US $350 applies to registrations received after April 30, 2017.


CONFERENCE LODGING
Alternative hotel accommodations are available at the conference website.

Due to the limited number of hotel rooms available, please complete your registration and lodging reservation early. Please note that all conference participants and presenters are responsible for booking and paying their own hotel expenses.
