ISWCR has recently organized a Special Issue to honor Dr. Mark Nearing and his valuable contribution to the science of soil erosion. He has worked as a scientist for the USDA Agricultural Research Service for 35 years starting in 1986 and has served as the editor-in-chief of ISWCR from 2016 to 2021. Dr. Nearing's work covered a broad spectrum of soil erosion and conservation topics, including mechanics of erosion processes, field measurement of erosion rates, model development and testing, and studying the effects of climate change on soil degradation.

This Special Issue is finalized as a multidisciplinary collection with articles focusing on the latest developments in soil erosion research in the following four themes: understanding physical erosion processes; quantifying soil erosion rates in the field; runoff and soil erosion modeling; and climatic trends, ecosystem change, and conservation practices. The issue brought together 14 contributions by a diverse group of researchers from six countries in Asia, the Americas, and Europe.

These online sessions on this special issue will offer authors the opportunity to delve deeper into their research findings, share additional insights, enrich our readers’ understanding of the published articles, and foster meaningful interactions within the research community.
