Founded in 1917, Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) was the first medical university in China offering an eight-year curriculum leading to an M.D. degree. Its sister institution, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS), founded in 1956, is a leading multidisciplinary medical research institution. CAMS and PUMC were merged in 1957 and are interdependent and complementary, providing mutual benefits in medical education and research.
CAMS and PUMC is dedicated to promoting international cooperation and would like to share its vision, progress, and knowledge with colleagues and friends worldwide by encouraging scientific exchange. The Institute of Medical Information (IMI) & Library, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College was established in 1974 by integrating the former CAMS Medical Information Department founded in 1958 and the PUMC Library. Over the decades, around the strategic tasks of national health system reform and medical scientific innovation, IMI has developed a wide range of research and advisory services in the areas of medical informatics, medical intelligence research and information analysis, health policy and management.
As the National Research Center for Medical Information and Biomedical Information Resources, the Medical Sub-Center of the National Science and Technology Library (NSTL), and the WHO Collaborating Center for Health and Biomedical Information, IMI plays an important role in national research on medical information and health policy, serving as a support organization for national health system reform and medical scientific innovation.
