Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is a research institution jointly established by CAS and the Shanghai Municipal Government on September 26th, 2008.
In March 2017, CAS and the Shanghai Municipality signed the agreement to deepen cooperation, aiming at building a science and technology innovation center with global influence. Subsequently, the National Facility for Protein Science in Shanghai (NFPSS) and the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) were transferred to SARI to support the development of the Shanghai science and technology innovation center. The team included the most comprehensive and strongest group for the research, development, and engineering of large advanced light source facilities in China.
In line with the goal of building a globally influential science and technology innovation center in Shanghai and the Zhangjiang Comprehensive National Science Center, SARI has actively pursued reform, innovation, and development. It has refined its research directions, optimized its research layout and set up new development concepts, directions, and goals to its pragmatic development.
SARI now focuses on the the development, construction, and operation of large advanced light source facilities. It conducts original innovation research and key technology development in accelerator science, photon science, energy technology and information technology. It supports frontier scientific research and provides core technology and integrated technology solutions for strategic emerging industries.
In response to new circumstances, SARI will stay closely aligned with the national innovation strategy, actively participate in the development of the Zhangjiang Comprehensive National Science Center, and continuously raise its level of scientific and technological innovation. By focusing on key priority areas, SARI will fulfill its role as a national strategic scientific force, supporting the high-quality growth of the national economy.
