Tianjin Institute of Industrial Biotechnology (TIB), Chinese Academy of Sciences, was jointly established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Tianjin Municipal People’s Government on November 29, 2012.
TIB is dedicated to pioneering original and disruptive innovation in the bioindustry to address the critical demands for green, low‑carbon and sustainable development. It has achieved key advances in enabling technologies such as rational protein design, pathway engineering, gene synthesis, DNA editing and high‑throughput screening. Major breakthroughs have been accomplished in industrial fermentation strain development, green bioproduction of chemicals, biosynthesis of natural products, biomass conversion, future‑food biomanufacturing, and CO2 biotransformation and utilization. As such, TIB has become a key source of original innovation in synthetic biology and green biomanufacturing.
Committed to openness, cooperation and internationalization, TIB builds global collaborative networks, runs international joint research programs and training initiatives, and fosters technology transfer and biotech start‑ups to advance the global bioeconomy.
Looking ahead, TIB will continue to leverage biotechnology to drive Industrialization of Agriculture, Greenization of Industry, and Globalization of Production, making new and greater contributions to the high-quality development of biomanufacturing and the bioeconomy.
