#AI reads Urine#The Urinary Proteome Differs with the Presence and Type of Breast Cancer
Published 20 November, 2025
This study aimed to develop a more convenient and non-invasive method for breast cancer detection. It recruited 130 women, including those with newly diagnosed breast cancer, benign breast disease, symptomatic but non-disease conditions, and healthy individuals. By analyzing the proteins in their urine, the study identified 346 differentially expressed proteins in breast cancer patients, among which 10 were present at significantly higher levels. When using 5 key differential proteins to detect breast cancer, the accuracy rates for distinguishing breast cancer from benign breast disease, symptomatic non-disease cases, and healthy individuals reached 98.5%, 98.9%, and 99.9% respectively. Additionally, two specific proteins could be used to differentiate between different types of breast cancer. In the future, a urine-based detection method may be developed based on these findings, though the current study requires a larger sample size for further validation.
