Special Issue on Plant Metabolism and Synthetic Biology

Published 08 October, 2026

Applied Plant Science (APS) will launch in early 2027 as a sister journal to Molecular Plant and Plant Communications. The journal publishes translational and applied-oriented plant research, advanced biotechnologies, innovative applications of plants and plant sciences, as well as interdisciplinary research, aiming to become a high-quality open-access journal in the plant science category.

To showcase the latest advances on plant metabolism and synthetic biology of natural products, the Editorial Team of Applied Plant Science will publish a special issue on "Plant Metabolism and Synthetic Biology", in coordination with the concurrent special issues on this topic in Molecular Plant and Plant Communications.

We invite researchers worldwide to submit original research articles, broadly useful methods/resources, and forward-looking reviews. Should you want to submit a Review article, we recommend that you send us a presubmission inquiry via aps@cemps.ac.cn before formal submission. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Biosynthetic pathways and evolution
  • Evolutionary and mechanistic insights into metabolic diversity
  • Structural and biochemical mechanisms of metabolic biosynthesis
  • Biological functions of metabolites and their biosynthetic pathways
  • Spatio-temporal regulation of metabolite biosynthesis and accumulation
  • Metabolic engineering and crop improvement
  • Synthetic biology of plant natural products
  • AI-driven approaches for pathway elucidation and metabolic engineering
  • Innovative methods, tools, and databases for plant metabolism research
