Special Issue on Andean and Pre-Andean Geodynamics

Published 26 December, 2025

Introduction:

This volume brings together different aspects of Andean and pre-Andean structure and its evolution, rheological, magmatic, and sublithospheric controls that shape them. It draws on a broad spectrum of methodologies — from gravity, seismic, seismological, geodetic, and geological data — across a collection of reviews and original articles compiled for the international scientific community.

The volume covers examples from Colombia to Patagonia, exemplifying the complexity of current models that predict episodic deformation and magmatism as a function of variable sublithospheric and crustal processes.

Topics covered:

Isotopic data in magmatic and metamorphic processes; Thermochronology; Kinematics; Heat Flow; Magnetic data; Gravimetric data; Seismology; Seismic information; Sublithospheric processes; Arc and Retroarc volcanism; Geochronology; Pre-Andean deformations; Andean deformations; Paleomagnetism; Co-seismic deformations in subduction zones; Interseismic deformations in subduction zones; Geothermic structure; Neotectonic deformations; Basin evolution; Large Igneous Provinces; Gondwana break-up; Tectonic inversion.
