Special Issue on Hydrogen-Integrated Energy Systems: Market Mechanisms, Intelligent Optimization, and Resilient Operation

Published 03 November, 2026

1. Special Issue Description

The global transition toward low-carbon energy systems, driven by ambitious decarbonization targets and the large-scale integration of renewable energy, has accelerated the development of hydrogen as a key energy carrier. The coupling of hydrogen with electricity, heating, transportation, and industrial systems introduces new challenges in infrastructure planning, coordinated operation, market design, risk management, and resilience enhancement.

Emerging technologies and mechanisms, including Artificial Intelligence, advanced energy markets, digital twins, and quantum computing, offer new opportunities for addressing these challenges. Recent progress in machine learning, reinforcement learning, physics-informed AI, hybrid quantum-classical optimization, and risk-aware decision-making provides promising pathways for the intelligent planning, secure operation, flexible trading, and resilient management of hydrogen-integrated energy systems.

To this end, Global Energy Interconnection has invited Prof. Dr. Hossein Farahmand at Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway, Asst. Prof. Dr. Zhengmao Li (Tenure Track) at Aalto University, Finland, and Dr. Sanchari Deb (Academic Track Faculty) at Newcastle University. They will organize a special issue for the June 2027 edition, titled "Hydrogen-Integrated Energy Systems: Market Mechanisms, Intelligent Optimization, and Resilient Operation". We sincerely invite submissions from scholars worldwide. This Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge theoretical developments and practical engineering applications on market mechanisms, intelligent optimization, and resilient operation of hydrogen-integrated energy systems, fostering interdisciplinary research and international collaboration.
