Special Issue on Carbon Neutrality for a Better World

Published 06 May, 2021

In light of global grand challenges associated with climate change, many countries and regions, including Europe, China, South Korea, Japan and South Africa, are targeting carbon neutrality by the mid 2000s. It demands new technologies and practices, including collaboration, and is a challenging task for nations, organisations and people around the world.

  • Best practices and strategies to deal with the challenges of carbon reduction and carbon neutrality at the macro, meso and micro levels.
  • Social activities and barriers involved in achieving carbon neutrality targets and the responses of individuals and organisations.
  • Inclusive innovation and social entrepreneurship encountered during the process to reach carbon neutrality.
  • Pathways to the future: probable scenarios and social transitions towards carbon neutrality, including energy transitions.
  • How the experience of the COVID-19 pandemic can be used to design and carry out preparation plans on an international scale.
  • How new technologies and methodologies can be leveraged to benefit society, including effective applications of practices to achieve carbon neutrality, e.g., digital technologies, life cycle assessment and carbon footprint evaluations.
