Glycomics and Clinical Translation

Published 27 August, 2025

Special Issue information:

Glycomics, as a frontier discipline studying glycan structures and functions, is rapidly advancing toward clinical translation. Glycans play essential roles in immune regulation, pathogen infection, and tumor progression. With mass spectrometry, single-cell analysis, and artificial intelligence, glycan profiling has become more precise, enabling the identification of biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis. Glycomics also shows great potential in tumor detection, antibody therapeutics, and vaccine development. Going forward, multi-omics integration is posied to further drive the progress of precision medicine.

The core theme of this special issue on "Glycomics and Clinical Translation" will highlight advances in clinical glycomics and glycoproteomics technologies, with an emphasis on their applications in disease biomarker discovery, glycan detection and analysis, as well as their relevance to health-related areas such as gut microbiota and aging.

Following topics:

  1. GlycoRNA & Diseases

GlycoRNA & Diseases explores the emerging role of RNA modifications, particularly glycosylation, in the regulation of gene expression and its association with various diseases. Including: Aberrations in glycosylated RNA contribute to cancer, neurological disorders, and metabolic diseases, with a focus on potential diagnostic and therapeutic applications.

  1. Glycoproteomics & Diseases

Glycoproteomics & Diseases focuses on the identification and characterization of glycoproteins and their role in disease mechanisms, including cancer, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases. It encompasses the study of glycosylation patterns and their impact on protein function, cellular signaling, and disease progression, aiming to uncover novel biomarkers and therapeutic targets for clinical applications.

  1. Glycomics methods & Diseases

Glycomics Methods & Diseases explores the advanced techniques used to analyze the structure and function of glycans, and their involvement in disease mechanisms such as cancer, diabetes, and neurodegenerative disorders. Including developing and applying innovative glycomics methodologies, glycan biomarkers, cellular interactions, and disease progression, with a focus on potential diagnostic and therapeutic breakthroughs.
