Professor Tong Qiu Appointed Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Railway Science and Technology

The Journal of Railway Science and Technology is pleased to announce that Professor Tong Qiu, Chair of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at The University of Utah, has been appointed Co-Editor-in-Chief of the journal.

The journal warmly welcomes Professor Qiu to its editorial leadership team. His appointment further strengthens the journal's international editorial board and brings valuable academic expertise and editorial experience to its continued development.

Professor Qiu is an internationally recognized scholar in geotechnical engineering, infrastructure engineering, and transportation-related research. With his extensive experience in academic publishing and broad international perspective, he will contribute to enhancing the journal's academic quality, expanding its global visibility, and promoting high-level scholarly exchange in railway science and technology and related interdisciplinary fields.

The Journal of Railway Science and Technology will continue to uphold rigorous academic standards and focus on cutting-edge research in railway engineering, transportation infrastructure, infrastructure safety, geotechnical engineering, intelligent construction, and related areas. The journal remains committed to publishing high-quality research and serving the global academic community in railway science and technology.

Tong Qiu

Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE

Tong Qiu, Ph.D., P.E., F.ASCE, received his B.S. degree in hydraulic engineering from Tsinghua University, China, in 2000 and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering with a focus in geotechnical engineering from UCLA in 2002 and 2005, respectively. Before joining the faculty and serving as Chair of the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at The University of Utah in 2024, he was a faculty member at Pennsylvania State University. Dr. Qiu was an associate editor for the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, ASCE, and the International Journal of Geomechanics, ASCE, from 2014 to 2023. He was an elected board member of the United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research. Dr. Qiu received the Excellent Paper Award from the International Journal of Geomechanics, ASCE, and the Faculty Early Career Development Award (CAREER) from the U.S. National Science Foundation. Dr. Qiu's research interests include theoretical, experimental, and numerical investigations at the laboratory and field scales, as well as the application of artificial intelligence (AI) to various civil engineering problems. Dr. Qiu has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles, including in leading journals in the geotechnical, infrastructure, and transportation fields.
