NSR Habitability is an open-access journal dedicated to advancing the science of habitability — the potential of an astronomical body or environment to support the origin, persistence, and evolution of life as we know it or in other hypothetical forms.
The journal addresses the fundamental question of how a planet becomes and remains suitable for life, with a strong emphasis on the co-evolution of life and planetary environments. It sits at the intersection of planetary science, Earth science and biology.
The journal’s scope encompasses, but not limited to, six core themes:
1. New theories and conceptual frameworks for habitability.
2. Novel methods and technologies for habitability research and detection.
3. Prerequisites and origins of habitability.
4. Limits of life and adaptation — from extremophiles to evolutionary boundaries.
5. Habitability and biosignatures of solar system and exoplanetary bodies.
6. Origin and evolution of Earth's habitability and its driving forces
