Dongju Zhang is a professor at Lanzhou University, where she leads the Paleolithic Environmental Archaeology Research Group. She earned her PhD in Physical Geography from Lanzhou University in 2010 and her bachelor’s degree in Archaeology from Shandong University in 2004. Her research focuses on prehistoric human activities on the Tibetan Plateau, particularly human adaptation to the high-altitude environments and the history of Denisovans in East Asia. Her findings have been published in leading journals including Nature, Science, and Nature Sustainability, and her work on the Denisovan mandible from Baishiya Cave was recognized as one of Science's "Top 10 Scientific Breakthroughs of 2019."
