Xiaojing Jia is a Professor of Atmospheric Sciences specializing in climate dynamics, short-term climate prediction, land–atmosphere interactions, monsoon systems, and the climatic influences of the Tibetan Plateau. Her research focuses on the Eurasian continent, where she has advanced the understanding of climate variability mechanisms and made significant improvements in regional climate prediction. A central thread of her work is the systematic investigation of multi-layer Earth system interactions—examining how factors such as sea surface temperature, sea ice, snow cover, and soil moisture collectively drive climate variability over Eurasia and how these insights can be translated into effective predictive signals. Building on these mechanistic foundations, she has developed physically grounded, interpretable climate prediction frameworks for the Eurasian region that integrate machine learning techniques with established statistical and numerical modeling approaches, thereby enhancing the region's climate prediction capability.
