Yan Zhao completed his PhD from Wuhan University in 1998 and postdoctoral studies at China University of Geosciences (Wuhan) , University College London and National Museum of Natural History (Karlsruhe, Gemany). She was a recipient of the Humboldt Research Fellowship. Her research interests are centered on palynology, paleoecology and paleoclimatology. She served as vice president of Submission of Human and Biosphere (INQUA) and as associate editor of Quaternary Science Reviews. Currently she is an executive member of PAGES, associate editor of Vegetation History and Archaeobotany, editors of National Science Review and Science China (Earth Sciences).
