Yingying Yao received her B.S. degree in Hydrogeology from Lanzhou University in 2010 and her Ph.D. degree in Energy and Resources Engineering from Peking University in 2016. She is currently a full professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University and a recipient of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars of China. Her research focuses on surface water–groundwater interactions, groundwater circulation in mountainous regions, and associated ecological effects, with particular emphasis on the impacts of cryosphere change and permafrost degradation on groundwater systems across the Tibetan Plateau. She has published more than 50 SCI-indexed papers in peer-reviewed journals, including Science, Geophysical Research Letters, and Water Resources Research. As a core team member, she was a recipient of the 11th Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water and was also awarded the Shi Yafeng Young Scientist Award for Cryospheric Science.
