Special issue on Environmental and Ecological Effects of National Water Network Construction

Introduction:
Chinese authorities have issued guidelines to strengthen the construction of a national water network as part of the country's efforts to enhance its capability to safeguard water security. A better understanding on the environmental and ecological effects of national water network construction will benefit the high-quality development of national water network. Achieving this goal requires interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary collaboration, as well as systematic, integrated thinking. This special issue will cover all aspects related to the environmental and ecological effects of national water network construction. We welcome original research articles, perspectives, case studies and review articles.

These include, but are not limited to the following aspects of water network:
- Evolution and regulation of ecological and environmental processes
- Hydrodynamic and hydrological alterations and regulations
- Multi-scale modeling for interactions among hydrodynamics, environmental and ecological processes
- Integrated management, ecological restoration, and policy implications
- Ecological service functions and their adaptability
- Ecological and environmental safety and risk control
