Special Issue on Towards Climate-Resilient Renewable-Dominant Power Systems: Technologies, Planning, and Adaptation

Published 09 May, 2026

The transition to renewable-dominant power systems is essential for achieving the Paris Agreement climate goals. However, renewable energy deployments are inherently dependent on climatic conditions. Climate change impacts power systems by altering renewable resource availability, reshaping spatiotemporal energy demand patterns, and intensifying extreme weather events that directly threaten grid infrastructure and operational stability.

The synergy between climate resilience and the energy transition is a critical area for research and innovation. This special issue will showcase the latest advancements in novel technologies, innovative planning methodologies, and adaptive strategies that enhance the resilience and reliability of renewable-based power systems under evolving climate conditions. We seek insights into climate-resilient, technologically viable, and economically sustainable pathways for renewable energy development and climate risk mitigation.

We invite submissions on related topics, including but not limited to:

  • Climate change impacts on renewable resource potential and generation reliability
  • Advanced risk and resilience assessment methodologies under climate change
  • Extreme weather impacts and corresponding technological adaptation strategies
  • Medium- to long-term system planning incorporating climate projections and uncertainty quantification
  • Operations and dispatch optimization considering climate-related risks
  • Climate-resilient investment frameworks and decision-support tools for renewable projects
  • Cross-regional renewable energy complementarity and coordinated climate risk management strategies
