Professor Mi Weidong is currently Director of the Department of Anesthesiology, The First Medical Center, Chinese People’s Liberation Army General Hospital. He is a Chief Physician, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, and a recipient of the Special Government Allowance granted by the State Council of China.

He currently serves as Chairman of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Committee of the Chinese PLA, Chief Scientist of Major Military Logistics Research Projects, Director of the Military Logistics Key Laboratory for the 14th Five-Year Plan Period, Chief Scientist of Key R&D Programs funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Deputy Director of the National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Diseases (PLA General Hospital), and Director of the Beijing Key Laboratory of Perioperative Multimodal Intelligent Integrated Diagnosis and Treatment.

He previously held the positions of the 5th President of the Chinese Anesthesiologists Association and Vice Chairman of the Chinese Society of Anesthesiology. He now acts as Editor-in-Chief of Anesthesia Safety and Quality Control, and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology and Journal of Clinical Anesthesiology.

Professor Mi has presided over 14 research projects, including the National Key R&D Programs, National Natural Science Foundation of China, key projects of the Science and Technology Commission of the Central Military Commission, and major military research programs. He has published more than 170 SCI papers with a cumulative impact factor of 530. He has been awarded 2 First Prizes and 2 Second Prizes for Military Science and Technology Progress, as well as 3 Second Prizes for Military Science, Technology and Medical Achievements, and has been granted 1 national defense invention patent.

He has led the formulation of 13 expert consensus statements and clinical guidelines covering combat and trauma anesthesia, prevention and management of perioperative complications in elderly patients, and anesthesia under special environments. His work has improved the national systems for combat trauma anesthesia and perioperative geriatric anesthesia management, and advanced the standardized and precise clinical development of anesthesiology in China. He has authored or translated 15 national planned textbooks and monographs, including anesthesiology textbooks, examination guides, clinical diagnosis and treatment manuals, anesthetic pharmacology, and specialized works on trauma anesthesia, greatly supporting the standardized training of professional talents in the field of anesthesiology.

His main research interests include:
Mechanism, prevention and treatment of perioperative cerebral injury in elderly patients;
Translational research on combat and trauma anesthesia, prevention and control of acute and chronic pain, and intelligent analgesia technology;
Research on perioperative central neuroinflammation, cerebral iron metabolism and the pathogenesis of postoperative cognitive dysfunction;
Perioperative organ protection and precise anesthetic management for critically ill patients.
His clinical subspecialties focus on geriatric anesthesia, critical care and combat trauma anesthesia, as well as cardiovascular anesthesia.
