Associate Editor Ke Cheng, Ph.D. has been recognized by AIMBE with the 2026 Professional Impact Award – Mentoring

Washington, D.C. – April 12, 2026 – The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) is proud to announce its 2026 award winners, honoring individuals whose groundbreaking contributions have advanced the fields of medical and biological engineering.

Associate Editor Ke Cheng, Ph.D. has been recognized by AIMBE with the 2026 Professional Impact Award – Mentoring for his international leadership and service in cell therapy, biomaterials, and exosome engineering, and outstanding mentorship in training the next generation of scientists and engineers from a diverse background.

Biography of Professor Ke Cheng 

Ke Cheng, Ph.D.

Alan L. Kaganov Professor ; Dept. of Biomedical Engineering, Columbia University ; Associate Editor of BAM

Dr. Cheng is the Alan L. Kaganov Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University. Prior to that, he was the Randall B. Terry, Jr. Distinguished Professor of Regenerative Medicine at the UNC/NC State Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering. He served as the Chair ofthe NIH Biomaterials and Biointerfaces (BMBI) study section (2022-2024). He also co-directed the NIH Comparative Molecular Medicine T32 Training Program and served as the Executive Director of Interdisciplinary Scholarship in NC State's Office of the Provost. He is a "highly cited researcher" by Clarivate. Dr. Cheng is an elected fellow of the American Institute of Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), the International Association of Medicaland Biological Engineering (IAMBE), and the American Heart Association (AHA). He currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief for Extracellular Vesicle (Elsevier) and Associate Editor for Bioactive Materials. Dr. Cheng has been devoted to the clinical application of stem cells and exosomes. He led several Investigational New Drug (IND) applications obtained from the FDA. The biotech companies he founded are developing cell and extracellular vesicle therapies, biomaterials, and devices to provide better solutions for lung and heart regeneration, cancer therapy, and drug delivery.
