Prof. Jian Yang, Editor-in-Chief of Bioactive Materials, Wins 2026 CLEMSON AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

Laurel, NJ — The Society For Biomaterials (SFB), a multidisciplinary society of academic, healthcare, governmental and business professionals who are dedicated to promoting advancements in all aspects of biomaterials science, education, and professional standards to enhance human health and quality of life, recently announced its slate of 2026 award recipients.

CLEMSON AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LITERATURE:
Jian Yang, PhD, Westlake University

Among them, Prof. Jian Yang, Editor-in-Chief of Bioactive Materials and from Westlake University, was honored with the CLEMSON AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTIONS. He is the third Chinese person to win this award. This award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the literature on the science or technology of biomaterials.

Chair Professor, Head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Assistant to the President at Westlake University.

Prior to joining Westlake University, Professor Yang served as a Full Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and Huck Endowed Chair in Regenerative Engineering at Pennsylvania State University.

Professor Yang Jian has published over 150 academic papers and holds 22 U.S. granted patents, 15 of which have been licensed. His accolades include the National Science Foundation CAREER Award (2010), the Outstanding Research Award from the College of Engineering at Pennsylvania State University (2018), and the Wallace H. Coulter Award for Medical Innovation from the Biomedical Engineering Society (2023). He is an elected Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE, 2016), the Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES, 2020), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS, 2021), and the International Academy of Medical and Biological Engineering (IAMBE, 2023). In 2018, he was elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).

He currently serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Bioactive Materials and Associate Editor of Science Advances. In 2023, he received the Distinguished Leadership and Service Award from the Chinese Association for Biomaterials.

SFB 2026 ANNUAL MEETING& EXPOSITION

On March 25, at the 2026 Annual Meeting of Society for Biomaterials held in Atlanta, USA, Professor Jian Yang was awarded the 2026 CLEMSON AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE LITERATURE. Professor Jian Yang is the third Chinese scientist to receive this honor in the 53 years since the award was established.
