Special Issue on AI for Biology
Published 16 January, 2024
Aim & Scope
The rapid advance in bioinformatics marks the dawn of a new era in life science research. As fields such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics progress, integrating data from these diverse dimensions has become essential for a systemic and holistic understanding of biological phenomena. Bioinformatics technologies, particularly those driven by artificial intelligence (AI), are being employed to perform analysis and predictive modeling on biological big data, enabling the extraction of profound biological insights from complex datasets. Consequently, this dynamic landscape underscores a collaborative approach that transcends traditional disciplinary boundaries, involving a synergy among bioinformaticians, biologists, computer scientists, mathematicians, statisticians, and experts from other related fields. This collaborative effort is essential to address the multifaceted nature of biological challenges and to lead further revolutions in life science research.
This special issue calls for Reviews, Perspectives, and Research Articles that contribute to the advanced interdisciplinary studies of bioinformatics theories, technologies, and strategies propelling life science research. We look forward to insightful submissions that push the boundaries of knowledge at the intersection of bioinformatics and life sciences. We welcome contributions related to, but not limited to, the following topics:
- Developmental trends, emerging ideas, and future directions of bioinformatics;
- Reviews on certain important research fields of bioinformatics;
- Cutting-edge life science research driven by the large language model;
- Applications of bioinformatics in diverse areas such as physiology, pathology, evolution and beyond;
- New theories, technologies, and strategies in bioinformatics.
