Special issue on “Endoscopic Ultrasound: Pioneering New Frontiers in Digestive Disease Diagnosis and Treatment”

Published 06 May, 2026

The open-access international journal Gastroenterology & Endoscopy is organizing a special issue titled "Endoscopic Ultrasound: Pioneering New Frontiers in Digestive Disease Diagnosis and Treatment". We warmly welcome submissions from experts and scholars. Accepted articles will be officially published in October 2026.

Special Issue Title: Endoscopic Ultrasound: Pioneering New Frontiers in Digestive Disease Diagnosis and Treatment

Special Issue Introduction:

With the development of minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) has become an essential tool for the precise diagnosis and treatment of digestive system diseases. Combining the advantages of endoscopic direct visualization with ultrasound imaging, EUS enables high-resolution evaluation of intra-wall and extra-wall lesions within the digestive tract. Furthermore, it supports interventional procedures such as Fine-Needle Aspiration (FNA), drainage, and drug injection, greatly expanding the clinical boundaries of gastrointestinal endoscopy.

This special issue aims to gather the latest achievements from gastroenterologists, EUS experts, imaging specialists, and biomedical engineering researchers worldwide. It will explore the innovative applications and future directions of EUS in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of digestive diseases.

Special Issue Highlights:

  • Multidisciplinary Integration: Promoting the deep intersection of gastrointestinal endoscopy, ultrasound imaging, pathology, and minimally invasive interventional technologies.
  • Cutting-edge Technology: Reporting the latest research progress of EUS in early tumor screening, staging, and interventional therapy.
  • Clinical Practice Sharing: Featuring successful cases and operational experiences of EUS-guided fine-needle aspiration, drainage, ablation, and marking.
  • Future Trends: Discussing the prospects of combining EUS with emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), elastography, contrast-enhanced ultrasound, and AI-assisted analysis.

Coverage Topics (including but not limited to):

  • Diagnostic value of EUS in early gastrointestinal cancers and submucosal tumors.
  • Optimization strategies for EUS-guided Fine-Needle Aspiration/Biopsy (EUS-FNA/FNB).
  • Application of EUS in pancreatic cystic lesions, pancreatic cancer staging, and treatment.
  • EUS-guided biliary and pancreatic drainage and anastomosis techniques (EUS-BD, EUS-CDS, etc.).
  • Expanded applications of EUS in evaluating mediastinal, retroperitoneal, and liver lesions.
  • Integration of EUS in the diagnosis and treatment of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) and Neuroendocrine Tumors (NET).
  • EUS combined with Artificial Intelligence: Intelligent image recognition, automatic lesion segmentation, and assisted decision-making.
  • Research progress of EUS in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Functional Gastrointestinal Disorders.
  • Prevention and control of complications, and quality control in EUS interventional therapy.
  • Novel EUS probes, miniature ultrasound catheters, and 3D ultrasound reconstruction technologies.
