Special Issue on Urban Stormwater Management and Flood Mitigation Strategies
Published 29 June, 2026
Introduction:
This special issue focuses on the evolving fields of sustainable stormwater management and flood resilience enhancement in a changing environment, as well as on the efforts on spatiotemporal flood simulation and performance assessment of stormwater control measures. The hydrological/hydraulic/ecological processes involved in urban stormwater management and flood mitigation strategies by implementing end-of-pipe facilities, low impact development practices, blue-green-gray infrastructure, and nature-based solutions are of interest for analysis, modeling, and evaluation using up-to-date advanced techniques.
We aim for this special issue to provide instructive guidance for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to address pressing urban stormwater quantity and quality issues and flood risk challenges.
Topics Covered:
- Urban stormwater management
- Urban flood risk mitigation/adaptation strategies under climate change
- Flood resilience of urban drainage system
- Flood control, modelling and risk assessment
- Sponge city/Low impact development/Green infrastructure
- Integrated green-grey-blue infrastructure system
- Nature-based solution
- AI-based methods for modeling urban flood dynamics/stormwater control systems
- Performance evaluation of stormwater control measures
- Rainwater harvesting and and sustainable water reuse
- Fate, transport, and ecological risks of emerging contaminants in stormwater facilities
- Eco-hydrological benefits of stormwater control measures
- Modelling of hydrological/hydraulic/ecological processes
