Call for Applications: Join the Youth Editorial Board

Published 13 October, 2026

Contribute your expertise. Connect with an international research community. Shape the future of pipeline science and engineering.

The Journal of Pipeline Science and Engineering (JPSE) invites applications from motivated early career researchers worldwide to join its Youth Editorial Board. JPSE is a peer-reviewed, open access journal dedicated to advancing energy pipeline science and engineering. Indexed in SCIE, it has a 2025 Impact Factor of 5.0 and ranks in JCR Q1 in both Petroleum Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

Early career researchers bring fresh perspectives, emerging expertise, and valuable connections to the communities they serve. Through this initiative, JPSE seeks to give these researchers a meaningful voice in the journal's development while offering opportunities to build professional networks, gain editorial experience, and increase the visibility of their work.

We particularly encourage early career researchers who can help broaden the board's geographical reach and disciplinary expertise to apply. Selection will be based on research quality, relevant expertise, and a clear commitment to contributing to an international scholarly community.

Why join?

As a Youth Editorial Board Member, you will have the opportunities to:

  • Develop editorial and peer-review skills through exchanges with experienced editors and discussions of publication standards, research integrity, and constructive peer review.
  • Build professional connections with fellow early career researchers, Editorial Board Members, and established specialists in pipeline science and engineering.
  • Help shape the journal's direction by identifying emerging research topics, sharing your community's perspectives, and proposing initiatives that serve researchers and readers.
  • Raise your professional visibility through a profile on the journal's website and opportunities to feature your research and professional achievements across its communication channels.
  • Take part in scientific events including board meetings and online seminars, with opportunities to suggest topics, contribute as a speaker, or help organize discussions.
  • Receive recognition for your service including an appointment certificate and consideration for future Editorial Board roles based on contributions, expertise, and the journal's needs.

Who should apply?

Applicants should have:

  • Completed a PhD or equivalent doctorate no more than 10 years before the application deadline. Extensions to this eligibility window may be considered for applicants who have experienced career interruptions, including parental leave, family caregiving responsibilities, or medical leave.
  • Demonstrated a strong research record in energy pipelines or a related area within the journal's scope.
  • Published at least three peer-reviewed research articles as a first author, including joint first authorship.
  • The willingness to contribute time, ideas, and expertise to the journal's development.
  • Demonstrated engagement with their research community through conferences, professional organizations, collaborative activities, or other forms of scholarly service.
  • The capability to communicate effectively in English within an international editorial community.

We welcome applicants from diverse geographical, institutional, and disciplinary backgrounds.

How will you contribute?

Members will be expected to:

  • Contribute to constructive and timely peer review within your areas of expertise, subject to your availability and the absence of conflicts of interest.
  • Share ideas and feedback on the journal's content, emerging research priorities, and engagement with the international research community.
  • Introduce the journal to relevant audiences at conferences, within professional networks, and through appropriate scholarly communication channels.
  • Recommend potential contributors and timely topics, helping the journal connect with researchers producing rigorous and relevant work.
  • Support research communication by identifying noteworthy JPSE articles and contributing short English-language highlights or accessible summaries.
  • Participate in board exchanges and activities, including online meetings and seminars, as schedules permit.

Members will work with the editorial office to identify activities that match their expertise, interests, and availability. A dedicated editorial-office contact will support their participation, and online activities will take account of the board's international membership and time-zone differences.

Board service does not require members to submit their own research to JPSE. Any submissions from board members will undergo the journal's standard independent editorial and peer-review processes.

Term of appointment

Members will serve a two-year term, with the possibility of renewal for a second term following a review of contributions and mutual interest.
