Prof. SONG Mengjie is the Head of Frost Laboratory, at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), China. He got Bachelor, Master, and Ph.D. degrees from Hunan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, respectively. Before coming to BIT, he worked as a Research Fellow and JSPS Research Fellow at the Nanyang Technological University and University of Tokyo, respectively. After working at BIT, he obtained DECRA Funding based on niversity of Wollongong. He also worked as Guest/Visiting Professors at Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Hanyang University, and Samara University, respectively.
Prof. SONG has focused on the complex fluid phase change thermodynamics for more than 17 years. Currently, he has published 334 journal articles, of which 181 SCI ones as first/corresponding author, and 11 ESI ones. He published 7 books for Elsevier, Wiley and Springer, and applied for 20+ Chinese patents. He holds 30+ projects from China, Japan, and Australia, with a total amount of more than 40 million RMB. He was selected for the National Youth Talent Project in 2021, received the Advanced Collective Award for the Beijing Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics in 2022, selected for the China-South Korea Young Scientists Exchange Program in 2023, received the FCE Outstanding Alumnus Award from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2024, and received the First Prize for Educational Achievements at Beijing Institute of Technology (ranked 2/7) and the First Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress in Shandong Province (ranked 3/15) in 2025. Around Frosting and Defrosting topics, he was the No. 1 scholar in 2016-2025 in the FindReviewer database of Elsevier. He was selected into the World’s Top 2% Scientists list (Career & Singleyr) in 2020-2026 and Chinese Highly Cited Scholars in 2025 and 2026.
He is the Editor-in-Chief of Recent Patents on Mechanical Engineering (EI, Scopus), Young Editorial Board of Applied Energy , and Guest Editors of Applied Thermal Engineering, Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments and Energy and Buildings, etc. He works as a Member of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR, B1), the Chinese Association of Refrigeration (CAR), and Japan Society of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (JSRAE), etc. He is also the corresponding expert of the National Nature Science Foundation of China, the National Science Foundation of the United States, the Domain Applied and Engineering Sciences (AES) of the Dutch Research Council (NWO), the Australian Research Council (ARC), and The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
