Prof. Talalay is a Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor of Drilling Engineering, and Director of the Institute for Polar Science and Engineering at Jilin University, China. He is an internationally recognized expert in polar drilling technologies, with particular expertise in ice-core and subglacial bedrock coring, permafrost drilling, and submarine sediment sampling. He has conducted 8 scientific expeditions to the Antarctic and Arctic, and has been engaged in the research of permafrost drilling and Antarctic ice drilling coring technology for many years.
