Recent scientific fields: sea ice mechanics, ice and oil interaction, ice propulsion of ship, risks of the ship accidents, human factor in ice navigation.
Methods: the mathematical physics, computer hydrodynamics and simulation technique, the experimental hydrodynamics including laboratory and oceanographic investigations on research vessels in the ocean conditions.
Research Works: Studies of the cavitation on hydrofoils and ship propellers, investigations of the cavitation strength of the seawater and hydrochemistry researches in the oceans, the ship wake dissolving capacity. Mathematical model and assessment of the environment hazards of disposed in the Baltic Sea old German chemical weapons. Methods for assessment of the impact of oil spills and leaks and natural gas escapes from seabed pipelines on the sea environment for designed pipelines, offshore structures and technics. At present studies are in the fields of the sea ice mechanics, the ice impact on offshore structures, the ice propulsion of the ship and risks of navigation in the ice-covered seas, the oil pollution of the sea ice cover.
