Fan Xiaopeng is a Professor at the School of Earth Exploration Science and Technology and Deputy Director of the Polar Research Center at Jilin University. He specializes in the theory and technology of sampling and detecting polar ice sheets and subglacial geological environments. Having led or participated in over ten national-level polar drilling technology projects, he has developed multiple suites of technologies and equipment for sampling ice cores, subglacial bedrock, and subglacial lakes. He has taken prat in six Antarctic field expeditions, attended deep ice drilling in Dome A, subglacial bedrock drilling and thermal drilling at the flank of Dalk Glacier, subsea sediment sampling at Ekstrom ice shelf and other projects. He is the author and co-author of more than 50 publications.
