Prof. Sun is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of Southeast University, China. He previously served as President of China University of Geosciences (Beijing). His research focuses on drilling engineering, with particular emphasis on deep-Earth and polar drilling technologies. He led the development of Crust One-the first 10,000-meter continental scientific drilling rig of China, world-leading drilling equipment for deep subglacial bedrock without drill pipes and pollution-free drilling equipment for Antarctic subglacial lakes.
