Prof. Du is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a Professor at Shijiazhuang Tiedao University.
He is a leading expert in the condition monitoring and safety control of large-scale engineering structures, and also serves as Vice Chairman of the Hebei Association for Science and Technology and Executive Deputy Director of the National Key Laboratory for Green and Durable Road Engineering in Extreme Environments.
He has long been engaged in research on intelligent monitoring and safety control in the field of rail transit. He was among the pioneers in introducing intelligent structural theories and methodologies into railway engineering safety assurance, and proposed an integrated technical system for condition monitoring and intelligent operation and maintenance, based on the framework of “monitoring–assessment–early warning–rehabilitation.” Focusing on major national projects such as high-speed railways, heavy-haul railways, plateau and cold-region railways, speed-up railways on existing lines, and smart urban transportation systems, Prof. Du has led his team in conducting theoretical research, technological innovation, and practical applications in the condition monitoring, health diagnosis, and rapid rehabilitation of large-scale railway bridges, permafrost subgrades, long tunnels, and TBM construction equipment.
Under his leadership, his team has received two Special Prizes, one First Prize, and three Second Prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, as well as ten First Prizes of the Provincial and Ministerial Science and Technology Progress Award. In the field of education, they have been honored with one First Prize and three Second Prizes of the National Teaching Achievement Award. Prof. Du has also been recognized with a number of prestigious honors, including the title of National Distinguished Professional and Technical Talent, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Science and Technology Award, the title of National Teaching Master, and the Zhan Tianyou Grand Award.
