Simone Cenci is Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Economics and Finance of Sustainability and Deputy Director of Research at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources. His research examines the role of corporations in the low-carbon transition, with a focus on firms’ investment decisions under uncertainty, the exposure of energy and energy-intensive sectors to climate-related financial risks, and the alignment of corporate decarbonisation pathways with global climate targets. His work has been published in leading interdisciplinary journals, including the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nature Communications, the Journal of the Royal Society Interface, and Climatic Change. He engages regularly with financial institutions, including banks and asset managers, on climate risk and decarbonisation, and has served as a member of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Expert Advisory Group for the Power Sector Standard development. He obtained his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Before joining UCL, he was an Advanced Research Fellow at Imperial College Business School and a quantitative researcher at DCI, an asset management firm specialising in corporate credit strategies.
