Special Issue on Sustainable Supramolecular Polymeric Materials from Renewable Resources

Published 22 May, 2026

Introduction:

With increasing concerns about environmental impact and depletion of fossil resources, eco-friendly supramolecular materials have emerged as promising alternatives for various applications. This special issue will present the recent advances in sustainable supramolecular materials derived from renewable resources such as biomass, biopolymers and natural products. It will highlight innovative strategies for designing, synthesising and characterising supramolecular systems based on renewable feedstocks, emphasising their dynamic, reversible and stimuli-responsive properties. Particular attention is given to emerging areas such as biomass-derived aggregation-induced emission (AIE) materials, bio-based luminescent systems, and fluorescent biomaterials from natural sources. Contributions showcasing fundamental understanding of non-covalent interactions in bio-based systems, including aggregation-induced photoluminescence phenomena, as well as practical applications, are welcomed.
