We extend our sincere appreciation to you as a valued member of the Underground Space community. Given the escalating significance of the development of underground space for societal sustainability and progress, it is imperative that our community fulfills its entrusted role to drive innovation and advancement in the sciences and technologies of underground space.
In 2025, Underground Space published 120 research papers that presented the most interesting and innovative findings and engineering practices in the field of underground space. Thanks to the collective efforts of our community, Underground Space received a JCR impact factor of 8.3, ranked 6th among 184 journals in the Engineering, Civil category in SCIE. In addition, its Journal Citation Indicator is 1.93 (Q1), ranking 2nd out of 185 civil engineering journals.
In 2026, Underground Space will be 10 years old, marking a new journey for the journal's development. On June 6, 2026, we will hold the third Jeme Tien Yow Lecture at Tongji University, Shanghai, China. Along with this event, we will also organize a series of activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the journal of Underground Space, including the 2026 Workshop on Frontiers of Underground Space, and the International Workshop on Geotechnical Risk and Uncertainty (IWGRU2026).
