Special Issue on soft organic electronics for wearable health monitoring

Introduction:

Continuous, on‑body health monitoring is reshaping how physiological signals are measured, from the clinic to everyday life. Realizing this vision depends on electronics that conform to the soft, curved, and dynamic surfaces of the human body while operating reliably over long periods. Soft organic electronic materials, including conjugated polymers, organic semiconductors, elastomers, and hydrogels, offer a potentially feasible route for achieving such devices. By combining mechanical compliance, tunable chemistry, and biocompatibility with electronic functionality, these materials enable devices to form intimate and stable interfaces with skin and tissue.

This special issue presents recent advances in soft organic electronics for wearable health monitoring, spanning materials, devices, and systems. It welcomes work on organic and polymeric semiconductors, stretchable and skin‑conformal electronics, and the transistors, sensors, and circuits built from them, together with the strategies for signal transduction, power, and integration that turn these devices into functional monitoring platforms. Contributions may range from fundamental materials design and device physics to complete wearable systems validated under physiologically relevant conditions.

By bringing together interdisciplinary researc across materials science, organic and flexible electronics, chemistry, and biomedical engineering, this special issue aims to further advance the development of next-generation wearable technologies for monitoring physical, electrophysiological, and molecular indicators of health.
